Grade 4.
Standard big band instrumentation (5 saxes, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, guitar, piano, bass, drums)
Elway’s Blues is a medium-tempo, hard-shuffling blues number. A great opener or closer to any program, this chart is also a fantastic way to feature multiple soloists in the group. The piece has solos written into the form for baritone sax (m. 60), trumpet 2 (m. 74) and trombone 3 (m.100) and additional solos over the 12-bar blues form at m. 100 can easily be added to feature rhythm section musicians and other instrumentalists in the ensemble.
Highest note for lead trumpet: concert D6
Featured solos: baritone sax (m. 60), trumpet 2 (m. 74), trombone 3 (m. 100), possibility to add more at m. 100 (solo changes included)
